Bryce Dallas Howard has revealed that she was paid “so much less” than Chris Pratt for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The acting duo were the leads in all three of the movies, including the franchise’s most recent installment, Jurassic World: Dominion.
Back in 2018, a report by Variety suggested that Howard, 41, was paid $8 million – $2 million less than 43-year-old Pratt’s paycheck of $10 million, for the sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
But, according to Howard, she earned even less than what was reported at the time.
Speaking to Insider, the actress said: “The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less.”
She continued: “When I started negotiating for Jurassic, it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage. And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and so your deals are set.”
Howard went on to highlight that Pratt fought hard for her to be compensated equally.
When she discussed the pay difference with the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, he tried his best to arrange for her to receive equal pay on franchise opportunities such as spin-off video games and amusement park rides, which weren’t already included in their contracts.
She said: “What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle on stuff that hadn’t been already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally told me: ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same, and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.”
Howard added: “And I love him so much for doing that. I really do, because I’ve been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie.”
The trilogy came to an end this year with Jurassic World: Dominion.
Many actresses have been vocal in recent years where advocating for equal pay is concerned. Big names like Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Lawrence, Taraji P. Henson and Amy Schumer have all fought for equity in the industry.
