Islam Makhachev slams “disgusting” Paris Olympics opening ceremony, explains boycott decision: “This is disrespect for all religions”

The Paris Olympics have faced criticism for the opening ceremony, which led many to suggest they were attempting to mock Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic mural of The Last Supper. While organizers claimed that they did not intend to disrespect anyone’s beliefs, there has been plenty of backlash in the days since.

Islam Makhachev says he may need surgery on his hand

Islam Makhachev had previously suggested that he would like to return to the octagon before the end of 2024. However, it might not be possible as he is battling a hand injury that could require surgery. In the same interview with Ushatayka, Makhachev was asked about his hand injury and recovery. He responded:

“After the fight, my fists hurt, a lot of things hurt. We’ll take time. Everything is healing little by little, but my hand continues to bother me. An MRI recently confirmed that I have a partial ligament tear. Let’s see if I can recover. If not, I might even have to have surgery.”

Makhachev added that competing at UFC 308, which is set to take place in Abu Dhabi on October 26, may not be possible. He noted that while he is doing rehabilitation on his hand, he is still training at about 40 to 50 percent and hoping to return this year.
