The Detroit Lions’s defensive end player was severely hurt during Sunday’s game, causing shocked reactions from users.
Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field following a gruesome leg injury late in the third quarter of the Detroit Lions’ 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on October 13, 2024. The incident occurred as Hutchinson sacked Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
The moment was so intense that Fox broadcasters refused to replay the footage. Eventually, videos were uploaded on social media, although official channels only showed the aftermath.

The injury wasn’t just shocking—it created a moment of unity on the field. Before Hutchinson was escorted to the locker room, what seemed like the entire field surrounded him.
The NFL on Fox’s official social media account uploaded the scene, writing, “Before being carted off, players from both teams came over to show Aidan Hutchinson some love 🙏.”
Later that night, The Detroit Lions made an update on their website, explaining that Hutchinson immediately underwent surgery in Dallas due to a broken tibia and remained there for further treatment.
Furthermore, the team’s head coach Dan Campbell addressed the concerns after the game. “He’s in good hands right now. He’ll stay back here. Obviously, he’s going to be down for a little while,” he said.
Meanwhile, fellow teammate and linebacker Alex Anzalone reflected on the game, saying that situations like this “bring you back down to earth.” He emphasized the inherent danger of football and that seeing a player injured in that way was “tough from a human aspect.”
Hutchinson’s injury is a huge blow to the Lions’ defense, as he led the NFL in sacks and was a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year.
Once these videos were shared online, many people, including professionals, commented. Physical therapist Jeff Mueller called it a “brutal injury” and likened it to those seen in mixed martial arts. However, fans were the most shocked. “That’s 100 percent emergency surgery right away holy [expletive] man this is career and life-altering,” one wrote.

Another user shared, “This is an insane way to snap your leg. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like that before.” Others also commented on the dangers of football compared to other sports, with one saying, “Football is too dangerous! That’s why I didn’t play high school football 🏈 I sticked to basketball.” Just weeks ago, a young football player died after an injury.
However, many were moved by the emotional moment on the field when players surrounded Hutchinson. One fan wrote, “A powerful moment of respect and sportsmanship. Both teams showing love to Aidan Hutchinson before he was carted off. Hoping for a full recovery!” Another added, “Classy move from both teams. Hope he’s ok and recovers quickly.“
As Hutchinson faces a long recovery, fans and players alike are hoping for his return. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that while the injury is season-ending, Hutchinson should be ready for the 2025 season.
