R&B Legend Natalie Okri: A 10-Year-Old Star of Britain’s Got Talent

Supernova singer Alicia Keys has the guts to match her voice. Little South London singer Natalie Okri, who is just ten years old, managed to astound the judges at Britain’s Got Talent with her rendition of Alicia Keys’s popular song “No One” during her audition. Due to the rarity of such innocent star potential, this schoolgirl’s professional voice was honed during the third season of the competition in 2009, and she enchanted the judges.

Natalie auditioned with the goal of being the next Beyoncé; she has been singing since she was four years old. Ever since, she has been killing it, graduating from university in 2019 while releasing a slew of albums and Afropop singles on her own. She has also been performing live in Brixton, London. The new music she’s releasing is exciting and catchy, with songs reminiscent of Ariana Grande and hints of Natalie’s Afropop heritage.

She confessed in her audition film for Britain’s Got Talent, “I sing at school, I sing at home, I sometimes sing while I’m eating my dinner,” demonstrating how music sustains her existence. It is hardly surprising that Natalie Okri emerged as one of the most notable acts from season three, given her approach. As soon as she began singing, her stage fright faded, she channeled the spirit of the Jackson 5, Simon Cowell smiled instantly, and her mum was moved to tears as the audience got up mid-song to applause.

Natalie made it to the semi-finals of BGT, where she sang “Superstar” by British R&B superstar Jamelia, after receiving four yes votes from the judges at her audition. But in the end, Natalie Okri was sent out because the judges were partial to the victorious street dancing group Diversity.

No doubt this did nothing to dampen Natalie’s ardent desire to pursue a career in music. With a total of eight official music videos totaling over 450k views, Natalie’s most popular video, “Like That,” which is now 25 years old, has amassed 165k views in just three years on YouTube. According to her Instagram posts, Natalie is a low-key fashion superstar in her leisure time and has over 41,600 followers on Instagram and over 52,100 on TikTok.

Despite being in the limelight for so long, she has kept the same modest, inspirational demeanor that won over BGT audiences. “I give thanks to God that I made it to the end of university with a 2:1 while juggling music,” she wrote with an Instagram image.
